The History of CliftonStrengths

Combining more than 80 years of experience with its global reach, The Gallup Organization knows more about the attitudes and behaviors of employees, customers and students than any other organization in the world. In the 1990s, under the leadership of educational psychologist Donald Clifton, Gallup developed CliftonStrengths as an objective measure of personal talent that could be administered online. Strengths, a revolutionary tool for measuring talents, was first introduced in 2001 with the bestselling book, Now Discover Your Strengths. The updated Strengths 2.0 was later released in 2007 and is consistently one of the hottest selling books on Amazon.

 

The Science Behind CliftonStrengths

The CliftonStrengths assessment is rooted in and based around neuroscience – a scientific discipline studying the structure, development, function and genetics of the brain. Using MRIs, neurologists can see the activity of the brain when subjected to certain stimuli. In short, your brain literally lights up when it’s functioning in an area of strength.

How it Works

  • Individuals take an online Clifton Strengths Assessment consisting of paired statements to choose between.

  • The assessment measures your natural patterns of thinking, feeling and behaving.

  • Individuals receive customized reports showing their strengths with personalized insights explaining what they mean.

  • Group workshop to provide awareness and appreciation of your team’s collective talents. Team building that’s actually fun and sustainable!

I have spent more than two decades in professional development in both corporate environments and trade associations with a strong emphasis on leadership development, talent management, and coaching of all generations and tenure. 

 

During that time, I developed a true passion for helping companies and organizations improve operational excellence, develop their talent and enhance employee engagement.

 

I took the CliftonStrengths assessment for the first time in 2009, and it changed my life! I realized that Restorative wasn’t a form of OCD, but a tremendous asset. I had taken other personality and professional assessments before, but nothing came close to describing me in the way that CliftonStrengths did. Today, so much of what I learned back then continues to influence the way I understand myself, how I make decisions and most importantly, how I relate to others.

 

Now, as a Gallup Certified Strengths Coach, I help teams become stronger by allowing the individuals to see where their passion lies, and how to use that passion to better contribute to both their organization and to their own personal success.

 

Everyone has their own unique set of innate strengths. Strengths Development allows us to discover each individual’s unique value proposition by identifying their core CliftonStrengths. My training serves as a catalyst for change within professional organizations, with the end result being stronger, more engaged and more efficient teams.
